This workshop is designed for participants to work together, get messy, learn new skills, and regardless of experience level, create a beautiful wall hanging. We will be doing hand-building and surface design techniques including carving, adding clay and using underglaze for color. All participants will have pre-cut circular clay slabs ready to decorate upon arrival. These will be their canvas for our time together. Additional clay will be provided for adding raised textures to the slab and well as all tools required to carve, paint, and attach clay together.
$200 per person for up to 12 people.
Lunch is included from local food vendors and will require 1 week advanced notice of all dietary needs.
This workshop is designed to be held on site at your location. All equipment to set up will be brought. Access to running water is required (please contact me if this is an issue).
This is a 4-hour workshop with a 30-minute lunch break.
We will spend our first 30 minutes with an orientation to clay and surface design, sharing and discussing inspiration (art, life experiences, music, etc). I will share some reference photos for inspiration and work with participants to understand what they would like to accomplish.
Participants can then move directly into working with clay or utilize paper and pencil to make their designs. They will have 1.5 hours to work before their lunch and 2 hours after lunch.
Clean-up time is not included for the participants, the instructor will do all set-up and clean-up outside of the 4 hour time frame.
*** these are not my photos or work and are only examples of the type of work we will be doing*
All work will be fired and glazed by the instructor. Clear glaze will be used on all works since the primary focus will be on underglaze and painting designs and textures. The clear glaze will seal and protect all the colorful painting that has been done. The works will be delivered within 4 weeks of the date of the workshop.
My focus is on creative expression and connection. I teach in a disability-justice oriented style meeting participants where they are at and understanding that we all have our own talents and challenges. I believe that everyone has innate creative curiosity and my goal is to support people in moving with that rather than focusing on how something should look or be. I will give tips and tricks that I have learned along the way as wanted, but allow each person to choose their own adventure. My goal is that we have a great time together and learn more about each other and clay.
